Grand Cayman Island Activities

Grand Cayman Island, the largest of the three Cayman Islands, offers a wealth of activities for visitors. SCUBA divers will enjoy the island's wealth of dramatic wall diving opportunities, and snorkelers can take advantage of the island's shallower underwater sights. The island also offers plenty of fun above water.
  1. Wall Diving

    • Grand Cayman Island is surrounded by steep underwater drop-offs very close to shore. This topography creates the ideal conditions for wall diving, where divers can explore dazzling vertical reefs. The island has popular dive sites on all sides, including Orange Canyon, Trinity Caves, and Eagle Ray Rock to the west and Snapper Hole and Babylon to the east. These sites often begin at depths as shallow as 50 or 60 feet, a comfortable zone for most open water divers. Many sites also feature labyrinthine tunnels and caverns that more advanced, cavern-certified divers will enjoy.

    Seven Mile Beach

    • Grand Cayman Island's Seven Mile Beach has topped many lists of best beaches in the Caribbean and the World, including Frommer's list of the best beaches in the Caribbean. These seven miles of white sand beach offer views of the Caribbean's beautiful clear blue water. The beach is lined with resorts and condos, but the beachfront itself is public, so visitors can walk the entire length. Keep your eye out for water sport opportunities, including sea kayaking, jet skiing, parasailing, and more.

    Stingray City

    • SCUBA divers, snorkelers, adults, and children alike will all enjoy this spectacular site just off Grand Cayman's north shore. Stingrays began gathering at this location years ago when local fishermen stopped in the sound to clean the day's catch. Now the stingrays keep coming thanks to the many dive and snorkel groups that frequently feed them. Stingray City is no deeper than 12 feet, allowing divers and snorkelers to focus their attention on the large, friendly stingrays all around them. Bring your underwater camera and plan to take plenty of pictures.

    Cayman Turtle Farm

    • The Cayman Turtle Farm is located on the island's west end, north of George Town. Established in 1968, the Cayman Turtle Farm raises green sea turtles and educates visitors about sea turtle conservation and breeding. Children will enjoy seeing the farm's many baby turtles.

    Smith Cove

    • Visit this hidden gem on the island's southwest side. Beautiful rock formations, lush plant life, and parakeets fill Smith Cove. Come here to sunbathe if you get tired of the crowds on Seven Mile Beach and bring your camera to capture the cove's stunning views.
