Weather History of the Bahamas

The climate of the Bahama Islands is perfect for those wanting a tropical vacation in the Caribbean Islands. Land and water temperatures are never separated by more than 5 degrees. Even when the temperatures rise and humidity is high, a northern trade wind helps to keep those on the islands cool in the daytime and comfortable at night.
  1. Temperatures

    • During the months of December through April (the most popular tourist months), daily temperatures in the Bahamas average 77 degrees F. From May through November, temperatures average 87 degrees F. The outlying northern islands usually run 5 degrees cooler than the main island.

    Precipitation

    • The Bahamas' rainy season runs from May through November. During the month of June, rainfall averages 9 inches. In August, rainfall averages 8 inches. During October, rainfall tapers to 7 inches. By November, rainfall amounts are back to normal, about 3 inches per month.

    Humidity

    • From May to November, a warm, moist, humid tropical air mass moves through the Bahamas. Relative humidity during these months ranges from 60% to 100%. When cold polar air masses move through from December to April, temperatures drop and humidity drops correspondingly.

    Trade Winds

    • Trade winds are felt throughout all of the Bahama Islands. These winds help keep temperatures feeling cooler than they actually are. Easterly winds run through most of the year, more to the northeastern direction from October to April and southeasterly from May to September

    Hurricanes

    • The Bahamas have been affected by hurricanes, like most Caribbean islands. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Since the mid 1920s, when hurricane records there began, the Bahamas has been hit by at least 30 named storms.
