Tourism in Dominica

Dominica, an island located in the Caribbean, is known for its unspoiled nature. Its rare bird and animal life is astounding. Although beaches are limited on Dominica, there is plenty to see and do.
  1. Getting There

    • There are no direct flights to Dominica from Europe or the United States. You will need to visit another island first. You may then catch a commuter plane or boat to Dominica.

    Getting Around

    • While there is a limited bus service on Dominica, the easiest way to get around the island is by renting a car or motorcycle. You can rent a car for around $50 per day.

    Currency

    • Dominica's currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. Most shops and taxi drivers will accept United States currency, however.

    Tips

    • Locals drive very fast on roads that are not well-maintained; take care when driving. Also hotels charge a 10 percent VAT tax that sometimes is including in the quoted price; be sure to ask when booking.

    Sights

    • One of the island's most popular places is Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It's a 17,000-acre expanse of rain forest and beautiful mountains.
