What is wizard island?
Wizard Island is a volcanic cinder cone located in Crater Lake, Oregon, United States. It is also known as
Llao (kla-LAH), the Klamath word for "rock" or "stone." The island was formed approximately 7,700 years ago when a magma flow erupted from the floor of the lake. The flow eventually built up a cone that, at 2,362 ft (720 m) above the lake's surface, is one of the highest in North America. The cone's crater is approximately 1,000 ft (300 m) in diameter and 200 feet (61 m) deep. The island's surface is covered in cinders and pumice, and it is devoid of vegetation.
Wizard Island is a popular tourist destination, and visitors can take boat trips to the island from the park's boat launch at Cleetwood Cove. The island can also be reached by hiking the Cleetwood Trail, which is a 2.4-mile (3.9 km) trail that begins at the Pinnacles Overlook.
