Tourist Attractions in Varadero, Cuba

Cuba is a vibrant destination and resorts now have first-class facilities to welcome tourists from the U.S. and elsewhere. Varadero is an up-scale resort town in the province of Matanzas, known for its lovely beaches and clear turquoise waters. There is also a network of caves to explore and tropical flora and fauna on display.
  1. Varadero's Caves

    • Three caverns make up the Bellamar Caves, said to be accidentally discovered in 1861 by a slave. The beautiful crystalline formations are of interest to geologists and evidence of prehistoric animals has been found. The Saturno Cave is a flooded cavern, admired for its stalagmites and stalactites and the Catalina Cave is another tourist attraction. Guided tours are available for each of the caves.

    Delfinario

    • The nearby Delfinario (dolphinarium) presents four dolphin shows each day in which the dolphins perform tricks in the water and in the air. Visitors can also book a swim with the dolphins session lasting 15 minutes.

    Parque Josone

    • The Parque Josone is a park located in the center of the town that displays tropical palm trees, an artificial lake and macaw parrots. Activities in the park include boating on the lake and there is a swimming pool. Visitors can camp and use the bowling alley and shooting grounds. Four restaurants serve seafood, Creole specialties, international dishes and Italian dishes.

    Varadero Beach

    • Varadero Beach is about 22 miles long and consists of white sand. Visitors can go fishing, hire a boat or book scuba diving lessons. A glass bottom boat trip is an opportunity to see the local shipwrecks. There are more than 45 hotels including well-known hotel chains and it's the largest tourist resort in the Caribbean. In addition to luxury hotels, there is cheaper accommodation including camping sites.

    Varadero Golf Club

    • Varadero Golf Club is the first 18-hole golf course to be constructed in Cuba. It is a Par 72 course and has an unusual feature in its salt water lakes that channel to the sea.

      The practice areas include two bunkers, two putting greens and a chipping green. Xanadu Mansion, built in 1930, is the course's Club House and has been refurbished in keeping with the original style. The mansion contains hotel accommodation and golfers and non-golfers can enjoy the restaurant, bar, pro shop and facilities of the Xanadu Beach Club

    Cayo Blanco

    • Cayo Blanco is an uninhabited island, half an hour away from Valadero by catamaran. Trips to the island take visitors to see the beautiful beaches and this coastline is well known for its turtles, tropical birds and fish, shellfish and mangroves. There is a diving center here and snorkelers and divers come to explore corals and sponges.
