A continent is a large, continuous land mass. A continent is also defined as a large unified portion of land or region within a continent that has a common history and character, which in turn refers to a cultural continent. For example, North America is a continent, South America is a continent, and Europe is a continent.
An ocean is a large body of salt water. Ocean is also loosely used to refer to the sea in general or to particular seas. For example, the Atlantic is an ocean, the Pacific is an ocean, and the Indian is an ocean. The Arctic is considered to be an ocean, but it is also considered to be a sea.
