Socotra is an island in the Indian Ocean, located in the Arabian Sea, about 240 miles (386 kilometers) east of the Horn of Africa. It belongs to Yemen and is the largest of the Socotra Archipelago, which also includes the smaller islands of Abd al Kuri, Samha, and Darsa. Socotra is known for its unique flora and fauna, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth. It is considered to be one of the most biodiverse islands in the world, and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
