Caribbean Cruises for One Person

The Caribbean consists of the more than 7,000 islands, inlets and cays from the southeast of North America, east of Central America and north of South America. The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands are in the Atlantic Ocean, north of the Caribbean Sea. Many islands in the Caribbean have strong cultural and historical ties to slavery, European colonization and the plantation system. With the exception of transatlantic voyages, cruise lines charge a surcharge for one person traveling alone in a ship's cabin.
  1. Wind Surf

    • Wind Surf, 660 feet, accommodates 312 passengers (double occupancy) offering fine dining and a high level of service on a modern sailing yacht. Windstar Cruises incorporates a 175 percent charge more than the double occupancy investment for persons traveling alone.

A typical Wind Surf itinerary is the seven-day round-trip cruise from Barbados to St. Lucia; Iles Des Saintes and St. Barthelemy, French West Indies; St. Martin and St. Kitts. Passengers are able to visit the ship's bridge (when out of port) because this ship is registered in The Bahamas and visit smaller ports in the Mediterranean and Caribbean because of the ship's size.

    Oasis of the Sea

    • Oasis of the Sea, 1,184 feet, accommodates 5,400 passengers (double occupancy). Oasis of the Sea incorporates the "neighborhood concept," where passengers can find unique experiences in one of seven onboard "districts." For example, there is the spa and fitness district, pool and sports zone, entertainment place and the youth zone. Guests traveling alone in one cabin can expect to pay 200 percent more than the double occupancy rate.

Oasis of the Seas' seven-night eastern Caribbean roundtrip cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Nassau, Bahamas; St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. and St. Maarten is a typical itinerary.

SeaDream Yacht Club - SeaDream II

    • SeaDream II, 344 feet, accommodates 112 passengers (double occupancy) in what the company calls "yacht-like" in setting with "resort-casual" dress code (no formal wear required). All suites are ocean view. Passengers have complimentary access to a wide variety of water sports equipment and mountain bikes. Passengers traveling alone can expect to pay a surcharge of 175 to 200 percent more than the fare for a double occupancy passenger.

SeaDream II travels to smaller harbors than large cruise ships because SeaDream has the ability to maneuver in more shallow water than the large ships. Typical of a seven-night itinerary is roundtrip from Barbados traveling to the several islands in the Grenadines and two islands in the St. Lucia island chain.
