Calm Beaches in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is known for its beautiful scenery, warm climate and beautiful beaches. However, some of its beaches have strong currents and large waves. Many visitors to the island prefer calm waters for light swimming, snorkeling or to just sit back and enjoy the beautiful sunrises and sunsets of Puerto Rico. This island nation has several beautiful beaches that offer calm waters for those who wish to leave the high winds, big waves and strong currents to the surfers.
  1. Boqueron Bay Beach

    • Boqueron Bay Beach, a popular tourist attraction, is located in the town of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. In part protected by a cove, this beach has very calm water and is consistently rated as one of the best beaches in Puerto Rico.

    Buye Beach

    • Buye Beach, Puerto Rico, is located on the northern end of the island and features some of the lightest, bluest water in Puerto Rico. The water here is usually calm, and the wind is always light.

    Playa Sucia

    • Play Sucia is located near Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Often considered the most scenic of the Puerto Rican beaches, its water is extremely calm and offers extraordinary cove views and soft, white sand. There is also a lighthouse located near this beach.

    Playa de Ponce

    • Located just outside the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Playa de Ponce beach is a good choice for travelers who want calm water but don't want to be too far from shopping and dining options. Playa de Ponce enjoys the warm sunlight that the southern coast of Puerto Rico is known for and is known as a very popular choice for families.

    Condado Beach

    • Condado Beach is located near the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The beach is sheltered by a natural stone wall that produces very calm water. The beach is relatively small compared to some of Puerto Rico's other beaches, but the smooth water and plentiful shade make this a good choice for those seeking a quiet, calm beach.

    • A sheltered beach offered protection by Cay de Tierra and Punta Negra, Playa Sun Beach is a mile long and features calm, very clear waters. Playa Sun Bay Beach also offers expansive views of the Puerto Rican coast that include Mount Pirata. Playa Sun Bay Beach is close to the city of Vieques, a convenient place to shop and dine.
