What is an ocean?

Ocean, the vast body of salt water that covers approximately 71% of the Earth's surface. Earth has five oceans: Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Southern (or Antarctic) Ocean, and Arctic Ocean. Together, the oceans contain more than 97% of the water on Earth.
