Where did river island the shop origianlly come from?

The first River Island store was opened by Bernard Lewis in 1988 on London's iconic Oxford Street. Lewis was initially an accountant before taking an active interest in fashion retailing with Lewis Sephton, a boutique in the UK city of Nottingham.
