What did Cortes hope to discover by exploring Central America?
Hernán Cortés, along with other Spanish explorers (like Pedro de Alvarado in Mexico), expected to find wealth in the form of treasure, land and natural resources, as well as an abundance of manpower through slave capturing, during his exploration into Central America. In some regions he did locate valuable mineral mines that contributed to Spain for years afterwards. It was common of those times to go on journeys such as these in search of such rewards (the "three G's": God, Gold, Glory) for both himself and for Spain or Spain's Crown to make them both very, very wealthy and powerful. Cortés found this sort of wealth in Mexico with the resources they collected over years.
