What land did Jaques Cartier find?

Jacques Cartier found the land that is now known as Canada. He was a French explorer who made three voyages to North America between 1534 and 1542. On his first voyage, Cartier explored the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the St. Lawrence River. He returned to France with news of the new land, and on his second voyage, he brought colonists to Canada. Cartier's third voyage was an attempt to find a northwest passage to Asia, but he was unsuccessful. However, he did explore the St. Lawrence River as far as Montreal, and he claimed the land for France.
