How many suburbs around Chicago?

The exact number of suburbs around Chicago is debatable, as the definition of a suburb can vary. However, according to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP), there are more than 250 suburbs in the Chicago metropolitan area. These suburbs are located in the counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will in Illinois; Lake and Porter in Indiana; and Kenosha and Racine in Wisconsin.
