How did the Gulf of Mosquito in Central America get its name?

The correct name is the Mosquito Coast, not the Gulf of Mosquito.

Christopher Columbus gave the region its name during his fourth and final voyage to the Americas in 1502 when he encountered the indigenous Miskito people, whom he dubbed los mosquitos ("the mosquitoes") due to their aggressive defense of their land.
