What Are the Seven Independent States of Central America?

Central America is a land of rich cultural diversity, beautiful beaches and historical landmarks. The rain forest nature reserves located there are home to a number of endangered species. Central America is divided into seven independent states or countries, each with its own history and traditions.
  1. Belize

    • Belize is located along the northeastern coast of Central America with Guatemala and Mexico to the west. It is 22,966 square km of land with 386 km of coastline along the Gulf of Honduras and the Caribbean Sea. It is the only English-speaking country in Central America. The population of 279,457 is governed by a parliamentary democracy. The capital of Belize is Belmopan.

    Costa Rica

    • Costa Rica, a Spanish-speaking nation, lies in the center of the landmass that connects Central America to South America with Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south.     El Salvador
