Popular activities include walking to Cerro de Guadalupe or Cerro de San Cristóbal for views of the city, perusing the exhibits of Centro Cltural de los Altos, Centro Cultural El Carmen and Café Museo Café, and visiting San Cristóbal's photogenic cathedral.
The town's nearest airport offering passenger flights is in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, almost two hours away. Otherwise, the Pan-American Highway links the the bulk of Mexico and the US to the north as well as Guatemala to the south by car, bus, colectivo and van.
Aside from combis connecting the Pan-American Highway to the center of town and local taxis, San Cristóbal offers low-priced bike and scooter rentals (see Resources).
San Cristóbal has a temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters. Its tourist high season is roughly from June until August.
