Lake Superior, Not Maracaibo or Titicaca, Is Largest in Americas

Lake Superior is the largest lake in the Americas by surface area (82,100 km²).

• Lake Maracaibo (Venezuela) – 13,210 km²; technically a tidal bay/estuary connected to Caribbean.
• Lake Titicaca (Peru/Bolivia) – 8,372 km²; highest navigable lake (3,812 m).

Superior is also the world's largest freshwater lake by area. It holds 10% of Earth's surface fresh water.
