Grand Canyon Location and the Colorado River That Carved It

The Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona, USA. It is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River over millions of years. The canyon stretches 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide, and over a mile (6,000 feet / 1,800 meters) deep. The Colorado River originates in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, flows through Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California, and empties into the Gulf of California. Its erosive power, combined with tectonic uplift, created this iconic landscape.
