What three countries governed Missouri before it became a state?

Missouri was governed by the French, the Spanish, and the United States before becoming a state in 1821. Although France officially colonized the land in 1699, the French never took full possession due to the Native Americans in the region. The Spanish government held the land for 35 years before selling it back to France shortly before France sold the land to the United States in the Louisiana Purchase.
