Located in the lower half of Mexico, Mexico City is located above much of the country. Because of its high elevation, the weather is surprisingly calm and mild. In May, which is the hottest month of the year, the temperatures usually climb into the low 80's and drop into the 50's at night. During the winter, the temperatures range from the low 60's to the 40's. Rainfall levels range from 4 to 6 inches per month during the summer and are almost nonexistent in parts of the winter.
As one of the most famous resort areas in Mexico, this city is located in one of the hotter and more humid parts of the country. Acapulco is located in Guerrero on the southwestern coast of the country. The yearly average temperature is in the 80s and 90s. From June through September, expect a lot of rain. During those months, which constitute the Rainy Season, anywhere from 10 to 14 inches of rain can fall per month.
Located on the Baja Peninsula near California, La Paz provides a combination of warm temperatures and lots of sunshine. During the summer, the highs are in the 80s, although they can reach the triple digits. In the winter, the temperatures can drop into the 60s and, on rare occasions, into the upper 50s. Rainfall levels throughout the year are less than two inches per month. Because of the ocean, however, humidity levels are always in the 70 percent to 90 percent range.
On the other side of Mexico, near the Gulf, Monterrey has very different weather than many of the cities on the western side. The average lows for the city is around 60 while the highs average around the mid-80s. Winter months are noticeably colder than the summer months--the difference is between 20 and 30 degrees. Rainfall amounts vary a great deal. In September, the average rainfall is 6 inches while throughout the winter months people in Monterrey are lucky to see one inch.
Another tropical resort area, Cancun is located in southern Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula and has a noticeably more tropical climate than Monterrey. Temperatures in the resort area remain in the upper 70 and mid-80s all year long. Rainfall, on the other hand, is heaviest from May through October. About 7 inches of rain falls in the city in September, which is the rainiest month. Like most of Mexico, the winter months tend to have very little rainfall.
