Why Charles de Gaulle want England to join the EEC?

There is no historical evidence nor record that Charles de Gaulle, the former President of France, wanted England (now the United Kingdom) to join the European Economic Community (EEC). In fact, de Gaulle famously vetoed Britain's entry into the EEC on two occasions—in 1963 and again in 1967—citing concerns about British sovereignty and influence.
