Why is there no humid tropical climate in Europe?

Europe has a humid subtropical climate in southernmost regions (for instance, parts of Portugal and southern Spain). However, the majority of Europe is not affected by a tropical climate due to its distance from the equator.

The tropics are the region between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, which are latitudes between 23.5 degrees north and south of the equator. Europe is located in the northern temperate zone, which extends from the Tropic of Cancer to the Arctic Circle, and so does not experience the high temperatures and high levels of precipitation associated with the tropics.
