How much money does each country pay to be part of the EU?

EU member states do not pay a set amount of money to join the EU. Instead, they contribute to the EU budget based on their Gross National Income (GNI). The contributions are calculated on a progressive scale, meaning that the richer countries contribute more than the poorer countries. According to the 2020 EU budget, the largest contributors were Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The total EU budget for 2020 was around €160 billion.
