Tarragona houses more than its fair share of Roman ruins, including a stunning amphitheater, a well-preserved Circus Maximus, as well as the Praetorium, which supposedly once housed both Emperor Augustus and Pontius Pilate.

August remains the hottest month in Tarragona; even then temperatures generally do not rise above 78 degrees F. September through November features the most rain, with October's average at 3 inches or more.
Tarragona can be easily reached via train from both Madrid and Barcelona. The city is best experienced on foot with many of the sights within walking distance of one another.
