Common Foods in Spain

Spain has a diverse culture offering signature dishes that represent dozens of regions. However, there are a few quintessential dishes that no trip to Spain would be complete without sampling.
  1. Tapas

    • More of a Spanish tradition than a food, tapas are available as a variety of small dishes offering an array of Spanish foods. While traditionally enjoyed between lunch and dinner, tapas can in fact be served at any time on any occasion.

    Gazpacho

    • Gazpacho is a well-loved tomato-based soup that blends peppers, cucumbers, garlic, olive oil and vinegar. Served cold, gazpacho is a summertime favorite in Spain and worldwide.

    Paella

    • The mainstay of Spanish cuisine is paella. An amalgamation of various ingredients cooked together in a large pan, it is traditionally made with shellfish, but can be prepared to accommodate any taste.

    Tortilla Española

    • Served at breakfast, lunch or dinner, the tortilla española resembles the omelet or the frittata. Typcially made of eggs and fried potatoes, it can also include meats, vegetables and cheeses.

    Sangria

    • Sangria is a popular Spanish red wine and brandy cocktail served over ice and freshly cut fruit. Sangria Blanco is a white wine version of the cocktail.

    Flan

    • A light and sweet end to any meal, the traditional Spanish flan is an egg custard dessert generally made with caramelized sugar and topped with caramel sauce.
