While studying Latin, I found out that more than half of the English language come from Latin. English uses a lot of Latin words, and the spelling plus the meaning of the words are the same.
The biggest surprise for me was the pronunciation of the word "Rome" in Latin it is pronounced Roma (ROH-mah). Now when speaking about "Rome", I always say...as pronounced in Italy (ee-TAHL-ee-ah) it's Roma (ROH-mah).
