How much wider will Iceland be in 150 years?
The width of Iceland is not expected to change significantly over the next 150 years. Tectonic plate movement causes the plates carrying North America and Eurasia to move apart at a rate of approximately 2 centimeters (0.79 inches) per year. This movement is responsible for the formation of new crustal material between the plates, resulting in the widening of the Atlantic Ocean. However, the rate of widening is very gradual and is not expected to have a noticeable impact on the width of Iceland within a 150-year timeframe.
