Italy is a country located in southern Europe. It forms a peninsula that juts out into the Mediterranean Sea and is shaped like a boot. Italy shares borders with France to the northwest, Switzerland and Austria to the north, and Slovenia to the northeast. To the south of Italy lies the island of Sicily, and to the west is the island of Sardinia.
Italy is also home to two small countries, Vatican City and San Marino, which are enclaves within its borders.
Italy has a long history and culture dating back to the ancient Roman Empire. It is home to many famous landmarks and works of art, such as the Colosseum, the Vatican City, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Italy is also known for its cuisine, which includes pizza, pasta, and risotto.
