Check the wheelchair accessibility map of the Metro. The map will show you which stations have elevators or escalators. Depending on the amount of luggage you are carrying and the flexibility of your route, you may want to plan your trip on the Metro so you only use stations with elevators and escalators.
Select your language from the menu at the ticket machine in the station. Select your destination and pay for the ticket. Check the turnstiles in the station. There should be a wider turnstile to accommodate those in a wheelchair or carrying luggage. Place your ticket into the slot at the front of the turnstile. The gate will open and you will be able to walk through with your luggage. The ticket will pop up on the other side of the gate. Remember to take the ticket with you.
Line up on the platform and wait for the cars to arrive. Once the train has stopped, reach up to the knob on the door and push it down. Unlike subway cars in other parts of the world, the doors do not open automatically in France.
Enter the subway car, placing your luggage away from the door. Choose an area on the floor where there is space to pile your bags. Choose a place away from the entrance, but close enough to the door that you can exit easily when you arrive at your station.
