What kind of money did people use before euro in Ireland?

Before the introduction of the euro, the currency used in Ireland was the Irish pound (IEP). The Irish pound was subdivided into 100 pence. The Irish pound was pegged to the British pound at a rate of 1:1 until 1979, when it began to float independently. The Irish pound was replaced by the euro on 1 January 1999, at a rate of 1 EUR = 0.787564 IEP.
