Where are the Scottish Highlands?

The Scottish Highlands cover a large part of the northwestern part of Scotland. The area can be loosely defined by the Highland Boundary Fault, a geographical feature that runs from Helensburgh in the west to Stonehaven in the east, and the Great Glen, encompassing most of the territory north and west of this line. The Highlands cover an area of 25,640 km² (9,900 sq mi), equivalent to about 39.5% of the total land area of Scotland. The Highlands and Islands are known as Gàidhealtachd, a region where the Gaelic language is spoken.
