Who Leads the Irish Government?

As of 2024, the head of the Irish government is Simon Harris, who became Taoiseach (Prime Minister) on 9 April 2024. He succeeded Leo Varadkar and leads Fine Gael, one of Ireland's major political parties.

The Taoiseach is appointed by the President of Ireland on the nomination of Dáil Éireann (the lower house of parliament) and serves as the head of government, chairing the cabinet and setting policy direction. The role is equivalent to a prime minister in other parliamentary systems.

Ireland's political system is a parliamentary democracy. The government (cabinet) is collectively responsible to the Dáil. The President, currently Michael D. Higgins, serves as head of state with largely ceremonial duties.

Note: Political leadership can change. For the most current information, consult official Irish government sources or reputable news outlets.
