Irish meaning of the word fey?

In modern Irish, fé/féithe is not generally equated to the English fey. Fé often conveys a sense of otherworldliness, not necessarily involving fear, but often does. It can mean prophetic but has a general sense of the supernatural, weird or mysterious. The plural féithe generally means 'fairies' or 'elfs' in Irish folklore, but can be used more broadly.
