Why are there so many spanish speaking countries?

The Spanish Empire was one of the largest and longest-lasting empires in history. The Spanish Empire's overseas territories included all of mainland Latin America, much of the Caribbean, parts of North America (Mexico, Florida), and parts of Asia (the Philippines, Guam). The Spanish Empire also had territories in Africa, including the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla, and Equatorial Guinea.

Many of the countries that we associate with Spanish culture and language today were once Spanish colonies. After gaining their independence from Spain, these countries retained the Spanish language and many of the traditions that had been brought over by the Spanish colonists.

The Spanish language is also widely spoken in the United States, especially in certain regions such as California, Texas, and Florida, due to the large number of Hispanics who have immigrated to the United States.
