Emiliano Zapata Salazar (1879–1919) was a principal leader of the Mexican Revolution (1910–1920). As commander of the Liberation Army of the South, he championed Tierra y Libertad (Land and Liberty), demanding restitution of communal lands to peasants and equitable wealth redistribution.
Zapata's Plan of Ayala became a manifesto for agrarian reform. Though assassinated in 1919, his ideals shaped post-revolutionary land policies and endure as a symbol of social justice in Mexico and beyond.
