When was Chile founded?

The founding of Chile can be traced back to 1541, when the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia led an expedition to the region and founded the city of Santiago, which became the capital of the Captaincy General of Chile, a Spanish colonial territory. However, the indigenous societies had inhabited the region for thousands of years prior to the arrival of the Spanish.
