Who named Mexico?

The name "Mexico" is derived from the Nahuatl word "Mexihco Tenochtitlan", which was the capital city of the Aztec Empire. Some versions of the history tell that the Aztecs were guided by the god Huitzilopochtli to the lake where they would find an eagle eating a snake on top of a cactus. There they founded their city, named Tenochtitlan.
