Why Mexicans Call White People "Gringos"

Several theories exist:

1. Greek origin – "Graikos" (Greek) → "Green Go" (U.S. green uniforms in Mexican–American War) → "gringo."
2. Greenhorn – Spanish "greenhorn" (novice) for naive foreigners.
3. Portuguese "garrudo" (brave) → distorted to "gringo" for American settlers.
4. Anti-U.S. sentiment – Post-war resentment colored the term negatively.
