When was Venezuela conquered?

Venezuela was first inhabited by several indigenous groups, including the Caribbean, Arawak, and Cumanagoto peoples. In 1498, Christopher Columbus arrived on the coast of Venezuela and claimed the land for Spain. The Spanish established a colony in Venezuela in 1522 and ruled the country for over 300 years.
