Anahuac, Texas: Founded by Anglo Settlers (1845), Not Mexican Troops
The premise is incorrect. Mexican troops did not build the settlement that became Anahuac.
History:
- 1830: Mexican fort (Fuerte de Anáhuac) established on Trinity River to collect customs/control colonization. Commanded by Col. Juan Davis Bradburn. Site of 1832 Anahuac Disturbances (precursor to Texas Revolution).
- 1836: After Texas independence, fort abandoned.
- 1845: Anglo settlers founded the town of Anahuac nearby. Named after the Aztec capital (Tenochtitlan/Anáhuac) by early boosters.
So: Mexican fort (1830) → abandoned → Anglo town founded 1845. No Mexican troop-built settlement evolved into Anahuac.
