When is the Rio festival?

During the last week in February, the city explodes in a whirlwind of parties and celebrations for Carnival, the Rio Carnival (held between Friday and Ash Wednesday). Rio's Carnival is not just one single event, but rather a massive gathering of hundreds of colorful processions, known as blocos, scattered throughout the city.
