In the second Persian invasion of Greece, the Persians were again defeated at the Battle of Salamis in 480 BC by a combined Greek fleet led by the Athenian general Themistocles. This victory effectively ended the Persian threat to Greece, and marked the beginning of the decline of the Persian Empire.
In the third and final Persian invasion of Greece, the Persians were defeated at the Battle of Plataea in 479 BC by a combined Greek army led by the Spartan general Pausanias. This victory marked the end of the Greco-Persian Wars, and secured Greece's independence from Persia.
