Why Visit NYC?

New York City is America's largest city. More than 8 million people make New York City their home. In addition, New York draws millions of visitors each year from the rest of the United States and from all over the world. There are many excellent reasons to travel to this attractive and vibrant city at the mouth of the Hudson River.

  1. The Arts

    • New York City is one of the world's artistic capitals. Thousands come to the city in hopes of starting a career in dance, music, visual arts or the performing arts. A visitor can easily enjoy the results of their efforts. Lincoln Center is home to two major ballet companies as well as one of the world's best opera companies. Visitors can catch an abstract ballet choreographed by George Balanchine at the New York City Ballet or watch a classical story-based ballet at American Ballet Theater. New York is also the center of American stage drama, comedy and musical theater. Catch a live performance at a Broadway theater. Try an afternoon matinee to save money or stand in line at TKTS, offering tickets at reduced prices if you make same day arrangements.

Once you've finished touring the planetarium you can go right next door and see the Museum of Natural History. Learn about dinosaurs with full-size dinosaur skeletons in front of your eyes. Visitors in search of an authentic ethnic lunch can try one of many different dim sum places in Chinatown or sample Indian foods in Little India. For a real New York City eating experience try the Second Avenue Deli. No longer actually located on 2nd Avenue, the Deli still offers delights such as homemade matzo ball soup, house cured pastrami, exceedingly sour pickles and rugalach (layered pastry covered with sweet toppings) for dessert.
