Things to Do in NYC in One Night

People flock to New York City, the Big Apple, hoping to make it on Broadway or to seek the big city life. The city is one of the world's greatest melting pots of culture, being a port of immigration. The Statue of Liberty welcomes visitors, her torch raised high. But she is hardly the only attraction the big city offers. For those able to enjoy New York, whether for a day or a week, there is much to see and do, from enjoying a hot dog in Central Park to visiting the Chrysler Building.

  1. Tourist Attractions

    • Plan to go early when visiting the classic monuments of New York, such as the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building, as long lines usually form. Use a city map help to organize the sites in order to maximize the number of places you'll have time to visit. Rockefeller Plaza, Madison Square Garden, and Times Square may be on your list of must-see places. To rest your feet, try a carriage ride through Central Park. And don't forget New York's marvelous museums--the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and the American Museum of Natural History to list but a few.

    • New York is famous for Broadway and its theaters. At any time, there's at least one hit in production. Of all the places to see a play, Broadway ranks among the top choices. If possible, purchase theater tickets in advance. Otherwise, speak with the hotel concierge as he can often procure seats for hard-to-see plays without much notice.

    Night Life

    • New York is a city famous for its food and clubs. From fine dining to small burger joints, food of all kinds can be easily found. And for the adventurous tourist, quality and authentic ethnic foods can be found in places like Chinatown and Little Italy. The city is considered a hub of the jazz world. All the great jazz performers have played in New York City. Or perhaps one of New York's comedy clubs would be preferred. There's the Comedy Cellar, Dangerfield's and Gladys' Comedy Room to consider. For dancing and music, New York offers a huge selection of clubs--but IDs will be checked. Perhaps try visiting Roof Garden Cafe, the 40/40 Club, Artisanal, Jazz Standard, High Bar, Table 50, 21 Club, or the Marquee.
