How did Jacksonville Florida get its name?

The city of Jacksonville, Florida, is named after Andrew Jackson, who would later serve as the seventh president of the United States. On January 10, 1822, the original town site of Jacksonville was laid out by Isaiah D. Hart and named in honor of Jackson, who at that time was the first U.S. military governor of the newly created Florida Territory.
