1. The Battle of Gonzales (October 2, 1835)
* This was the first battle of the Texas Revolution.
* Texan settlers fought against the Mexican army over a cannon that the Mexican government had demanded they return.
* The Texans won the battle and kept the cannon.
2. The Convention of 1836 (March 1-17, 1836)
* A group of Texan delegates met to decide whether or not to declare independence from Mexico.
* On March 2, 1836, the delegates voted to declare independence from Mexico and created the Republic of Texas.
3. The Battle of the Alamo (February 23-March 6, 1836)
* A group of Texan soldiers, led by William Barret Travis, fought against a much larger Mexican army, led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna.
* The Texans held out for 13 days, but were eventually defeated by the Mexican army.
* The Battle of the Alamo is remembered as a heroic stand by the Texan soldiers.
4. The Runaway Scrape (March-April 1836)
* After the Battle of the Alamo, the Texan government and many Texan settlers fled from the advancing Mexican army.
* The Runaway Scrape lasted for several weeks and resulted in the Texans losing much of their property.
5. The Battle of San Jacinto (April 21, 1836)
* The final battle of the Texas Revolution.
* Texan soldiers, led by General Sam Houston, defeated the Mexican army, led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna.
* The Texans captured Santa Anna and forced him to sign the Treaty of Velasco, which recognized the independence of the Republic of Texas.
