Comparing Elevations: Panama vs. Mexico

Contrary to a common misconception, Mexico has a higher average elevation than Panama. Mexico's average elevation is about 1,111 meters (3,645 feet) above sea level, while Panama's is only 85.5 meters (280.5 feet). Mexico's highest point, Pico de Orizaba, reaches 5,636 meters (18,491 feet), compared to Panama's highest, Volcán Barú, at 3,475 meters (11,401 feet). Thus, Mexico is significantly higher in both average and maximum elevation.
