The Mexican state Quintana Roo is home to popular tourist spots like Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System
- Also known as the Great Mayan Reef, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System is the second largest coral reef in the world. Stretching for over 600 miles, the Great Mayan Reef is home to 500 species of fish, a variety of coral formations, sea turtles, crocodiles, manatees, dolphins and other diverse marine life.Dive sites are plentiful and many snorkel and scuba tours can be found in Quintana Roo.
Garrafón National Reef Park, Isla Mujeres
- Garrafón Natural Reef Park is located on Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancun. This popular attraction is home to numerous outdoor activities including biking, snorkeling, kayaking and swimming with dolphins. Mayan ruins dedicated to the earth goddess Ixchel can also be explored on the island. Beaches, shops, restaurants, swimming pools, restrooms, showers, hammocks, umbrellas and lounge chairs are some of the free facilities available at the park, while the zip line and towels will cost a bit extra. Whale Shark Discovery
