When did the san Diego zoo first open?

The San Diego Zoo first opened on October 2, 1922. It was founded by Dr. Harry M. Wegeforth and his wife, Anne, who were inspired by a trip to the Bronx Zoo in New York City. The zoo's original location was in Balboa Park, but in 1937 it was relocated to its current site on 100 acres in the city's Mission Hills neighborhood. Over the years, the San Diego Zoo has grown to become one of the largest and most popular zoos in the world, housing over 3,700 animals from more than 660 species and subspecies.
